Tennis legend Björn Borg: "Winning or losing depends on the desire to play the last point."

Björn Borg is a tennis legend , as the former Swedish player won 654 singles matches and lost 140 throughout his career. He holds 11 Grand Slam titles , being the sixth with the most after Djokovic (24), Nadal (22), Federer (20), Pete Sampras (14) and Roy Emerson (12).

He won 66 ATP Tour titles , capturing six Roland Garros crowns and another five at Wimbledon. Three years in a row (1978-80), Borg achieved the Roland Garros-Wimbledon double.

One of Björn Borg 's most famous quotes is "Winning or losing a match depends on how much you want to play the last point."

The former ATP world number one was known for his blond hair and for his ability to stay cool under pressure. "The hardest part for a tennis player is the mental aspect , the psychological aspect," Borg said in an interview with the ATP.

"Okay, you have to be in shape, that's one part. But mentally, when you step onto the court, you're on your own . If you play in a team sport or something, you can always hide behind other teammates," the former Swedish player explained.

Borg highlighted the mental aspect of becoming world number one: "But in tennis, you're on your own. You have to make the decision. What should I do? You have to have that personality, the ability to handle those situations . I think that's the difference between being number 1 and 100. Everyone can play very good tennis, but to be at the top, to be number one, psychologically it's very difficult ."

The former tennis player reached world number one at 21 , becoming the sixth-youngest player to reach the top of the game. Borg finished his career with 109 total weeks as the world's top player.

In the interview he detailed what it takes to achieve that position: " First of all, you have to have motivation, a big heart, and tenacity . You have goals: 'I've already achieved this, but I want to be better.' You have to love what you do. When you step out onto the tennis court, you have to love every moment."

He defined himself as a very competitive person: "Losing wasn't part of my personality," Borg acknowledged. "The most beautiful thing was winning. That's why as a kid—when I believed—I trained, I sacrificed so many things in my life. But the beautiful thing is that you win. Wow! That's everything."
